Good People, Good Care

Getting Good People To Care, Getting Good Care to People, isn’t that what it’s all about?

Our healthcare system is far too complex.

At its most basic, it should be about just that. Good Care. But instead, more often than not, we’re fighting with insurance companies for procedures and prescriptions that our doctors recommend.

My sister is having surgery on a brain aneurysm next week. Talk about frightening. It’ll take place at a regional specialty center, because that is where the best vascular neurosurgeon works. He’ll have a partner with him, co-captain of the surgery. He says it is not at risk of rupturing, and we have to believe that. What else can you do?

Pray.

Have Faith.

Make bargains with God and the Universe.

Repeat.

My sister is one of the healthiest people I know. She works out, she stays in shape, she eats well. She’ll be 57 in January. A brain aneurysm is delicate, it’s dangerous, it’s very often, fatal. We are lucky that A.) It’s not a tumor, and B.) My sister works in healthcare, she is a Physician’s Assistant and has a high amount of understanding about how the system works. We’re trusting it’s all gonna work out.

But we’re still just praying for the best

Even what my mom is doing

Our Christmas plans to gather at my sister’s house have been disrupted, but that is the least of our worries. In fact, with Mom still on the walker from her hip surgery back in October, we’re joking that perhaps we should film a Carol Burnett-esque sketch: My sister with a head bandage, and Mom on the walker, hollering at hospital staff to get out the way, we’re tryna rehab here!
